Course description
Faculty

Common to any research lab or clinical working space is a sense of order and organisation; dedication and diligence; and a sense of drive and purpose to know more, to find a cure, to improve care, to end suffering, and ultimately, to give someone a better life.

As the custodians of more than 4000 future medical and biomedical health clinicians and researchers, the Faculty of Medicine + Biomedical Sciences (M+BS) is also driven, dedicated, and duty-bound to ensure our next generation of doctors, scientists, and health professionals is equipped with the tools to achieve their vision.

We discover. We innovate. We lead.

Established on 1 January 2014, M+BS has combined three research intensive schools, and five hospital-based institutes and centres. In so doing, we have achieved broad coverage of the ‘translational pipeline' linking the pre-clinical and clinical sciences with population and global health.

M+BS possesses enormous strengths spanning researchteachingindustry engagement and clinical practice in disciplines ranging from basic biomedical sciences, biomedical research and development to clinical trials and public health.

We are physically co-located with Brisbane’s major hospitals as well as at UQ’s St Lucia campus, and high-resolution technology connects us with health services throughout Queensland. Such positioning places students at the forefront of clinical teaching and practice and ensure that teaching and research in medicine, biomedical sciences and population health are informed by clinical need.

Cutting-edge facilities such as the $25 million Herston Imaging Research Facility and our labs in the Translational Research Institute sharpen our understanding of cancer, autoimmunity, mental disorders, infectious diseases and neurological disease.
