Course

The Certificate IV in Theatre and Screen performance consists of 15 units covering the knowledge and skills in acting for stage as well as screen performances. The course incorporates training in the areas of voice movement. 

Entry requirement

    • Proof of English proficiency: minimum IELTS 6.0 overall (with no single band score below 5.5) or equivalent. 

    • Evidence of successful completion of a senior Secondary School certificate or equivalent (transcripts and certificate must be translated and certified). For further information please contact AFTT international admissions staff at international@aftt.edu.au for assistance. 

    • Attend an interview in person or via Skype.

    • You must be at least 18 years of age on commencement of studies. Applicants under the age of 18 must have a legal guardian in Australia. In some cases AFTT can assist in making suitable welfare arrangements.

    • Acting and music theatre applicants must undertake an audition. Audition videos/online links are accepted for applicants living overseas.

    Applications will be accepted up until two weeks before the course commences, but please note that visa applications can take considerably longer than two weeks to process. Please contact the Australian Embassy in your home country for recommended timeframes for processing your visa application.

  • AFTT recognises IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge and Pearson English Test scores taken within two years prior to the start of AFTT studies:

    IELTS: An overall score of 6.0 with no single band score below 5.5
    TOEFL: iBT: 80 overall with a writing score of 20
    Pearson English Test (PTE): 57
    Cambridge English Test: CAE with no band below 169

  • If you would like to study in Australia at a university or tertiary level then you may be eligible for the Higher Education Sector Visa (subclass 573) or Postgraduate Research Sector Visa (subclass 574). If your intention is to study a non-award foundation studies course or components of a course (other than English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students) that does not lead to an award then the Non Award Sector visa (subclass 575) may suit your needs. For those who intend to come to Australia to undertake English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) the Independent ELICOS Sector visa (subclass 57) provides this option.   • Entry into AFTT is based on: 

    • A completed application form

    • Completion of a year 12 Higher School Certificate or equivalent*

    • An interview

    • An audition (required only for Acting and Music Theatre)

    • Minimum age of 18 at Advanced Diploma course start however applications may be submitted from any age.
